Elephant tusks, drugs and firearms valued at hundreds of millions of rands
have been seized in police raids countrywide.

The SAPS says it's netted more than 200,000 suspects since the launch of
Operation Shanela in May.

In Durban, a team comprising the Hawks and KZN Economic Infrastructure Task
Team caught a man selling an elephant tusk.

The 62-year-old was arrested in Greenwood Park.

Police say the horn, which weighed some four-and-a-half-kilos, is estimated
to be worth R2 million

The suspect was charged with being in possession of an endangered species.

In Johannesburg, some R800 million worth of drugs that were seized during
several operations were destroyed.

In Cape Town, drugs to the value of R170 million were destroyed.

National police say through Operation Shanela, over 15 400 suspects were
arrested for being in possession of drugs.

Officials say in the past week, more than 9500 people were arrested for
various crimes nationwide, with 114 illegal and unwanted firearms seized.
