Two adult elephants entered the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, East Singhbhum,
by scaling its four-foot boundary wall on Tuesday night.

The school is located at Jagannathpur under Barsol police station in
Baharagora.

School principal Janardhan Singh said, "Security guards spotted an elephant
near the generator room and alerted us. Forest officials arrived and found
two elephants on our premises. They drove out the two elephants towards
Kaju forest using torches and firecrackers. While the elephants were
feeding on bananas, mangoes, and tree leaves, we ensured that the students
remain in their hostel rooms. We instructed them to close the windows and
maintain silence."

Jamshedpur DFO Saba Alam said, "The two elephants were safely driven away."

During its 90-minute presence, the elephants caused no injuries to people.
This was the second such incident in five years. "We have asked forest
officials to double the height of the boundary wall and install barbed
wire," the principal added.

Acting upon the request of the school principal, the forest department
would take up the matter with the DC to implement preventive measures, the
DFO added.

In another incident on Tuesday, Hadiram Murmu (40) was trampled to death at
Machbhandar village when he was on way to his field.
