A female elephant was found dead in the buffer zone of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) in the Nilgiris on Tuesday. The carcass of the elephant was first spotted by the forest field staff during a routine patrol at Singara Oodhukukadu in the Masinagudi forest division in the MTR buffer zone. A postmortem was conducted on the spot and the preliminary autopsy report suggested that the elephant, which was around 50 years old, might have died of age-related issues, an official said. “We have collected samples of vital organs from the carcass and sent them to the lab for pathological tests.
