A tragic incident unfolded in Shitalpota area of Majherdabri Gram Panchayat of East Rajabhatkhawa range under Buxa Tiger Reserve in Alipurduar, where a baby elephant carcass was found lying in a well. As per reports, On Tuesday, the local farmers noticed that their paddy cultivation was eaten by a herd of elephants. Following this, a baby elephant was found lying in a well. Subsequently, the matter was informed to the Forest department. Upon receiving the news, the forest officers and personnel arrived at the spot and recovered the body after a relentless effort which lasted for several hours.
