COIMBATORE: Tirupur district forest officials registered a case against
three tribal youths under the Wild Life Protection Act for teasing wild
elephants near Thirumurthy dam settlement area on Wednesday.

Videos of the tribal youths teasing wild elephants by throwing stones at
them and beating them with sticks went viral on social media on Thursday
morning.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the tribal youths, who are residing in
a settlement located inside the reserve forest, used to take their cattle
for grazing. On Wednesday morning, they noticed two elephants and a calf
and started to tease the wild animals.

They chased the elephants by throwing stones at them. When the elephants
charged towards them, the youths managed to escape.

Forest department officials said they came to know about the incident on
Wednesday evening and registered an FIR against three tribal youths.

A team of forest officials went to the tribal settlement to nab the trio.
