A video capturing a wild elephant freely roaming on the ninth bend of
Charmady Ghat during noon on April 8 has gone viral on social media.

This incident recalls a similar occurrence two months ago when wild
elephants were seen walking on roads during daylight, causing panic among
motorists.

The tusker, believed to have come from Banjaarumale in Neriya, stood at the
roadside for some time before heading back towards the Neriya forest.

Motorists who spotted the elephant stopped their vehicles to allow the
pachyderm to cross the road. However, one motorcyclist narrowly escaped
being attacked by the tusker as he crossed its path unknowingly. This
dramatic encounter was captured in the viral video.

Suspicions arise that the same tusker created havoc in some farms of
Kalmanja on Saturday night. Local residents and forest officials had
managed to drive it back into the Neriya forest. Its reappearance on
Charmady Ghat on Monday has reignited concerns.
