LIPIS: An Orang Asli woman died after she was trampled by a wild elephant
at Kg Simoi Baru in Pos Betau near Kuala Lipis early Tuesday (Dec 6)
morning.

In the 4am incident, the victim Wak Angkat Yok Tong, 39, was fatally
injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

Lipis OCPD Supt Azli Mohd Noor told Astro Awani that the authorities
received a distress call at 4.40am about a woman in the village believed to
have been attacked by a herd of wild elephants.

According to him, the victim and eight of her family members were sleeping
in a bamboo house surrounded by banana plants.

"The wild elephants attacked the house and all nine were woken up by the
shaking walls. They tried to escape in the dark.

"When they regrouped, they discovered the victim was missing and
immediately began searching for her.

"They found her body near the banana trees," Supt Azli was quoted as saying
by Astro Awani.

He said a team from the Sungai Koyan police station rushed to the scene and
found that the woman had been trampled to death.

Supt Azli added that the victim's body had been brought to the Lipis
Hospital Forensic unit for a post-mortem.
