Sullia: Under attack by rogue elephant, farmer loses life Daiji World April 8, 2021 A farmer who was repairing a pipe carrying water into his field at Kalmakaru in the taluk, was attacked by a wild elephant. He succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the attack on Wednesday April 7. The deceased was Shivaram Gowda (85), resident of Mentakaje in Kalmakaru village. Gowda was busy attending to problems in the pipeline that brings water to his plantation from inside the forest region on Wednesday when an elephant attacked him unexpectedly. It is said that due to the trampling of the elephant, he had suffered serious injuries to his leg. The family members who went to look for him as he had not returned home, found that he was in a critical condition. After noticing his condition, an ambulance was summoned and he was taken to a private hospital in Sullia. But the treatments given there failed to save his life. Gowda has left behind wife, three sons and a daughter. Forest officials, after learning about the incident, visited the hospital and put together details. In the meanwhile, a herd of eight elephants was noticed on Wednesday evening near Kedila on Ainekidu road that connects Kalmakaru, Kollamogrum Harihara etc from Subrahmanya.
