Elephant found dead in MTR (Udhagamandalam) Times of India July 16, 2024 A female elephant was found dead in Segur range of forest in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve’s (MTR) buffer zone in the Nilgiris on Monday. Forest field staff spotted the carcass at the Sigur north beat in the Segur range, during regular patrolling. Dhayanandhan, forest range officer, said the elephant might have died at least a week ago, adding that its tushes were found intact. A forest veterinarian attached to the MTR conducted an autopsy. The preliminary report suggested that the elephant aged around 48-50 years, might have died of age-related issues. “We have collected tissue samples from the carcass and sent it for lab tests,” a forest official said.
