In a tragic incident, a man lost his life after being trampled by a wild
elephant while attempting to assist Forest Department officials in
dispersing the animal. The incident occurred on the outskirts of Bonai, a
region known for its frequent wildlife encounters.

The deceased person has been identified as Gobinda Munda of Kulkuta village.

According to the sources, over the past two days, a lone elephant has been
causing widespread disruption in the Bonai Forest Range area. Forest
Department officers, aided by local villagers, have been working tirelessly
to drive the rogue elephant away from residential areas.

Late last night, during an ongoing operation near Kulukuta village, the
situation took a tragic turn. The elephant, already agitated from earlier
encounters, returned with more aggression. In a shocking display of force,
the elephant grabbed 45-year-old Gobinda with its trunk and violently
slammed him to the ground in front of witness.

Though the forest officials shifted him to Bonai Hospital but despite their
efforts, the doctor declared Gobinda dead on arrival.

The incident highlights the severe risks associated with wildlife
management and the ongoing challenges of handling aggressive animals. The
Forest Department is reviewing its approach to prevent such tragedies in
the future, while local communities are left grieving the loss of a
dedicated individual.
