In another instance of human-elephant conflict, wild elephants destroyed 20
Areca nut plantation farms and farm huts at Chanka village on December 4.
According to villagers, a herd of eight to ten elephants, including a baby
elephant, was responsible for the destruction. The latest incident comes
just a week after wild elephants ravaged more than 20 terrace cultivations
at Mekokla village on November 27. Villagers from Chanka have expressed
concern over the escalating conflict and urged the government and the
forest department to take immediate action to prevent further damage. They
said that the situation was spiralling out of control and highlighted the
need for urgent intervention.
