The wild jumbo ‘Chakkakomban’ which was hit by a speeding car at Choondal
near Poopara on KochiDhanushkodi highway on Tuesday night has not suffered
any injuries.

According to the veterinary expert who sighted the jumbo near Cement Bridge
on Wednesday, the animal was moving around normally. Preliminary
investigation did not reveal any injuries on its legs, said Devikulam
forest range officer P V Veji.

“The musth condition of ‘Chakkakomban’ seems to have ended and we will
continue observing the animal in the coming day as well,” the forest ranger
added. The car driven by one Thangaraj was moving at a speed of 30-40 km/hr
when it hit the elephant. The windshield was broken when the jumbo struck
it with its tusk.

The jumbo soon walked past the car and moved to the Chinnakanal area,
eyewitnesses said. There were four persons in the car and those who
suffered minor injuries were admitted to a hospital. Residents said the
elephant has been staying in the Poopara-Choondal region for the past few
days and on Tuesday the elephant entered the road while it was being scared
away from a residential area. There is a curve on the road and there was
also mist in the area and that might have led to the accident, they added.
