Elephant causing fear captured, third in a week (Hassan)

The forest department on Sunday successfully captured the third elephant at
Hebbanahalli in Sakleshpur taluk. Three elephants were captured in a span
of one week.

Forest minister Eshwar B Khandre ordered the capture of three elephants
that were creating terror in Belur and Sakleshpur taluks. The operation was
launched on March 16, and all three elephants were captured. The elephants
were captured with the help of tamed elephants - Dhananjaya, Prashantha,
Bheema, Kanjan, Harsha, Ekalavya, and Mahendra.

The first tusker was captured at Bikkodu on March 16, and Vikrant was
captured on March 20. Vikrant was shifted to Sakrebyle Elephant Camp in
Shivamogga. The wild elephants were creating terror for the local people
and raiding crops regularly. The elephants also attacked humans. Following
the death of three people, pressure mounted on the department and officials
to capture the tuskers.

The captured makna elephant will be shifted to Bhadra Reserve, said an
officer. Since the operation was launched, the officials and staff members
of the Elephant Task Force have made efforts and monitored the movement of
the elephants. Conservator of forests V Yedukondalu and DCF Saurabh Kumar,
along with veterinarians, were involved in the operation.

Eshwar Khandre, in a communication, appreciated the staff and officials who
participated in the operation. He also ensured steps would be taken to
protect wildlife as well as humans.
