The SANParks Facebook page responded to a post by a follower by saying:
“Thank you for your concern. Please note that a helicopter was deployed to
escort the animals back into the park. We would also like to stress that
management have so far got the situation with the elephants under control.”

In an updated social media post, SANParks confirmed that colleagues from
Mpumalanga Tourism & Parks Agency (MTPA) requested assistance from Kruger
National Park to drive back six elephants that had escaped back into the
park. Community members reportedly blocked the escape route and the scene
became dangerous and chaotic. The team is still on the ground trying their
utmost to drive them back. Updates will be posted as and when received.

This is not the first time that a herd of elephants have walked out of
South Africa’s most famous park.

As reported by The South African website back in August 2022, a similar
incident took place.
