A 42-year-old man from the tribal community was injured in a wild elephant
attack at Malakkappara on Sunday evening.

According to residents, Thampan of Adichilthotti Colony was attacked when
he was on his way back home after collecting forest produce.

He was located when other residents conducted a search on Monday morning.
He has been admitted to taluk hospital.

A 75-year-old woman from the tribal community was trampled to death by a
wild tusker in the forest area adjacent to Watchumaram colony, which is
also near Malakkappara area, a couple of days ago.

Meanwhile, a cow was killed in a leopard attack at Kundayi near Palappilly
on Monday morning. The cow belonged to Kolleri Kunjumuhammed of Kundayi.

According to him, the cow was injured in a leopard attack a week ago and
was under treatment when it was attacked again.

The forest officials said they have asked Harrison Malayalam estate
management to clean up weeds in the area so that wild animals would not
remain hiding there. Also, cameras would be installed to track wild animals
straying into human habitations.

Malayora Samrakshana Samithi President E A Omana said there were nine
leopard attacks in Palappilly area over the past two months.

She alleged that forest officials were not taking adequate steps to prevent
wild animal attacks though people in the area are living in a state of fear.
