Migori: Man arrested with elephant tusks worth Ksh.1.1 million (Kenya)

A 41-year-old man was Thursday evening arrested with two elephant tusks
weighing 11 kilograms estimated to be worth a street value of Ksh.1.1
million.
Document obtained from Kehancha police station indicated that the suspect
identified as Alex Wambura was arrested by officers from Kenya Wildlife
Service on the Kehancha-Ntimaru road. The suspect was ferrying the two
elephant tusks, which were wrapped in sisal reeds, using a motorcycle.
The suspect was together with his accomplice who managed to escape by foot
during the ambush laid by the police officers.
During the arrest, an officer from the Kenya Wildlife Service from Isebania
sustained a deep cut on his left knee.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Friday.
The incident comes a month after a suspect aged 40 years was arrested with
elephant tusks weighing 54 Kg with a street value of Ksh.5.4M at Gwitembe
in Kuria East, Migori County.
