Ailing’ tusker returns to forest (Thrissur) Times of India March 14, 2024 A wild elephant, found in ailing condition in the Kerala Plantation Corporation’s palm tree estate near Athirappilly, went back to the forest on Wednesday evening. Vazhachal DFO R Lekshmi said forest officials have been asked to continue monitoring the elephant. She said the tusker, fondly called by the residents as Ezhattupuram Ganapathi, was found in a weak condition in the area on Saturday. Forest veterinarian Dr Binoy C Babu was called to explore the possibilities of diagnosing the ailment of the tusker, which appeared to be aged about 25 years. However, preliminary observations indicated that the elephant was not suffering from any major ailments, as the movement of its trunk and ears appeared to be normal. It had also taken some water, Babu said.
