The dead body of an elephant calf was found in the Kekkanahalli forest,
located within the Bandipur sanctuary of Gundlupet taluk.

It is suspected that the one-year-old male elephant calf may have died two
days ago after supposedly being separated from its mother and failing to
procure sustenance in a timely manner. The exact cause of death, however,
remains unknown.

Forest guards who made the discovery informed their superiors. The
Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF)  Naveen Kumar-led team conducted an
immediate investigation. Accompanied by Veterinary Officer Dr. Mohan Kumar,
the team performed a postmortem examination of the elephant’s remains.

According to Dr. Mohan Kumar, samples of the elephant’s organs and viscera
have been dispatched to the Forensic Laboratory for further analysis. The
definitive cause of death can only be determined upon receipt of the
laboratory report, he added.
