Daily wage labourer killed by wild elephant in Coimbatore

A 47-year-old daily wage labourer was killed by a wild elephant while he
was sleeping under a tree near his house at Narasipuram in the district in
the early hours of Monday.
V Chandran, a resident of Dharmaraja Kovil Street at Narasipuram, was
sleeping under a tree near his house on Sunday night. Around 12.30am on
Monday, a tusker in musth strayed into the village and attacked Chandran
with its ivory. Chandran suffered severe injuries on his chest and died on
the spot.
The frontline staff from the Boluvampatti forest range rushed to the spot
and sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for a
postmortem.
After the postmortem, the body was handed over to family members.
Boluvampatti forest range officer Suseendranath handed over Rs 50,000 to
the family members of Chandran as an immediate relief fund. The forest
department will hand over the remaining Rs 9.5 lakh to the family soon.
Meanwhile, the forest department deployed three teams in the village to
prevent human-animal conflict.
