Woman killed by elephant in H’bag forest, 3 kids injured (Hazaribag) Abhijit Sen, Times of India November 28, 2024 A 22-year-old woman was trampled to death by a elephant when she ventured into Bhelwara jungle of Hazaribag east division to collect firewood and fruits. Three children accompanying her were critically injured in the incident. The victim, identified as Punam Turi, encountered a herd of 23 elephants in the forest. While attempting to flee to safety with the children, an aggressive elephant chased and trampled her to death. The injured children were rescued and admitted to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital by forest department officials. Divisional forest officer Vikas Ujjwal said that the victim's family would receive Rs 4 lakh as compensation as per govt regulations.
