A man has been charged in a Nakuru court for illegal dealing in and
possessing an elephant tusk weighing 47.3 kilograms with an estimated
street value of Ksh.4.7 million.

The accused, a middle-aged man, appeared before Nakuru Magistrate’s court
on Tuesday to answer to charges of dealing in and possessing a specified
endangered wildlife trophy without a permit.

The man denied the charges and was granted a bond of Ksh.150,000 or a cash
bail of Ksh. 100,000.

The court heard that the man was allegedly found at Septet Sub-location,
Tegat Location, Elburgon Ward, on Saturday, March 29 2025, at around 1720
hours,  with the said elephant tusk weighing 47.3 kilograms.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) later received intelligence about an
individual suspected of possessing an endangered wildlife trophy and
actively seeking a buyer.

“Upon arrival, the officer met the suspect and confirmed the authenticity
of the elephant tusk. The tusk was subsequently weighed and verified at
47.4 kilograms, leading to the suspect’s arrest by KWS officers,” stated
the ODPP.

The matter will be mentioned on April 29, 2025.
