COLOMBO: A lone elephant attacked a house located in the Koswagawa village
in Sooriyawewa Hambanthota. The incident occurred at about 3.40 am.
A part of the roof of the house was damaged and fell on to the 12-year
child and injured him. According to the area resident, two people were
stuck in the house for a few hours as the elephant was roaming in the
vicinity.
The News1st correspondent in the area Roshan visited this house at 4 am as
soon as he was notified of the incident. The residents of this village
lament that although the Wildlife office in Madunagala Hambanthota was
notified of the threat posed to their lives by wild elephants in the area,
the stories of their plight have fallen on deaf ears.
The lone elephant left the village at about 6 am.
