The state govt told a division bench of the MP High Court that a committee
comprising a Chairman and six experts was constituted to examine the issues
raised in the petition over the protection of wild elephants who make their
way into the jungles of Madhya Pradesh from Chhattisgarh.

The state govt asked for time to consult the experts from outside the state
as suggested by the petitioner. The court, agreeing to the state govt's
request, deferred the hearing of the case to Dec 15.

In the previous hearing of the case on Nov 15, the petitioner raised the
issue of the death of 11 wild elephants in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve
area and said that there is no expert in the state of MP to control the
wild elephants. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and
Justice Vivek Jain, who are hearing the public interest litigation (PIL),
asked the petitioner to suggest names of experts.

Counsel for the petitioner,Anshuman Singh, reminded the court that it asked
the state govt to seek help from experts from Kerala on the proper upkeep
of wild elephants, but the state govt declined the suggestion.

The state govt, which earlier said that the help of experts from outside
the state was not required to learn how to look after the herds of wild
elephants, also agreed to hire the services of experts from other states
for the purpose.

Nitin Sanghavi from Raipur in Chhattisgarh, in his public interest
litigation (PIL) According to guidelines of the Union Forest & Environment
Ministry, capturing a wild elephant should be the last resort to ensure
their protection, but in MP, it's applied as the first option.
