A 60-Year-Old Rubber Tapper Trampled to Death by Wild Elephant in Chonburi The incident that occurred at 07:30 on August 31, when a 60-year-old man lost his life after being trampled by a wild elephant in a rubber plantation located in Khlong Phlu Subdistrict, Nong Yai District, Chonburi Province. Pol. Lt. Prasat Amornpannapong, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Nong Yai Police Station, was informed of the incident and quickly proceeded to the scene with the Silatham Foundation rescue team. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Mr. Narong Panakul, aged 60, lying in the middle of the plantation. The victim had sustained multiple fractures throughout his body. Large elephant footprints were found around the area, indicating the terrifying moments before his death. Ms. Meekaew, the 45-year-old wife of the deceased, recounted the harrowing experience. She explained that she and her husband had set out early in the morning to tap rubber, working on opposite sides of the plantation. While she was busy at work, she suddenly noticed her husband running and shouting for help, closely pursued by a large wild elephant. The elephant quickly caught up with Mr. Narong, knocking him down and trampling him repeatedly. Ms. Meekaew, paralysed by fear, hid in the nearby tall grass and watched in horror as the elephant circled her husband before finally leaving the scene. When she emerged, she found her husband unresponsive and immediately called for help from other rubber tappers in the area, who then notified the police and rescue team. Unfortunately, it was too late; her husband had already succumbed to his injuries. The authorities have since transported Mr. Narong's body to Nong Yai Hospital for an autopsy. His remains will be released to his family for funeral rites according to religious customs. Wild Elephant Kills Local Resident in Chanthaburi Province This incident occurred in Kaeng Hang Maeo, Chanthaburi Province, early on the morning of August 31, when a wild elephant fatally attacked a local resident. Authorities have issued a warning to nearby communities, advising them to refrain from outdoor activities, particularly rubber tapping, until the situation is under control. At approximately 03:00, Mr. Kittichai Rungphaiboonwong, the head of Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park and leader of the Rapid Response Unit 5, received a report from the village headman of Moo 2, Phawa Subdistrict, Kaeng Hang Maeo District, Chanthaburi Province. The report stated that a wild elephant had attacked and killed a local resident. Officials arrived at the scene in Phawa Subdistrict, where they identified the victim as Mr. Budda, a 66-year-old local resident. According to the victim's family, around 02:30, Mr. Budda awoke to the sound of an elephant foraging near his home. He stood under the eaves of his house and shone a light to locate the elephant. Tragically, the male elephant charged at him, striking him and flinging him 6-7 metres away from the house before it fled the scene. In response to the incident, the Klong Hin Ploeng Village Elephant Surveillance Network has been closely monitoring the movements of the elephant responsible. Residents in the surrounding areas have been warned to exercise caution and avoid rubber tapping or any other outdoor activities for the time being.
