Ranchi: Two elephants ventured into a closed cold storage factory in Ratu
Chatti area in Ratu block on city outskirts early on Thursday sending the
local forest department into a tizzy.
By late evening, two separate teams deployed from Burmu and Itki areas
since morning managed to gradually drive the elephants back to Itki jungles
connecting Arki forest range in the adjoining Khunti district.
Till the time of filing this news, no untoward incident was reported as the
forest department had pressed a battery of its men on the ground for crowd
control as well as safety of the animal to prevent any man-animal conflict.
Ranchi's divisional forest officer Srikant Verma said that their plan was
to wait till dusk to drive the elephant safely back into the jungles.
"We didn't want to disturb the elephants which was camping and roaming
inside the closed cold storage unit here in search of food. Our focus was
to ensure that the crowd didn't disturb it. After the traffic fizzled out
in the evening, two teams began driving the elephants safely," he said.
According to DFO, the two elephants were part of the herd of four which was
camping in Itki on Wednesday.
