Elephant tramples woman to death in Kalahandi

In another incident of human-animal conflict, an elephant trampled a
50-year-old woman to death In Bagapur village under the Narla forest range
in Kalahandi this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Champa Karua.

According to the information, Chama went to collect cotton from farmland.
Soon, she was attacked by a wild elephant. As a result, she succumbed to
the injuries on the spot.

Soon, the villagers spotted Champa’s body and informed the forest
department. On being informed, forest officials reached the spot and
initiated a probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, the villagers expressed disappointment towards the forest
department. Besides, the villagers blocked National Highway (NH) 6A and
demanded compensation for the deceased family. They have also alleged that
the forest department is not doing its duty properly.

In the meantime, the police reached the spot and had a discussion with the
agitated villagers to end the blockade.
