Mysuru: A female elephant died due to suspected anthrax at the Bandipur
Tiger Reserve. According to forest department sources, the 30-year-old
female elephant was found dead at Kundukere range in Gundlupet taluk of
Chamarajanagar district.
The corpse of the elephant was burnt after a postmortem. The incident came
to light during the regular patrolling of the forest department staff in
the area.
"It died due to suspected anthrax. We sent samples of its organs to
Bengaluru for investigation and to confirm the cause of death," explained S
Prabhakaran, director of the BTR. He also made it clear that no other
elephants showed such symptoms till now.
